I have organised a trip to Cobham Hall in north-west Kent, home of the Earls of Darnley, at the insistence of my Ince cousins, who really enjoy getting together to admire the furniture our ancestor, William Ince, produced. The firm enjoyed a forty year relationship with the Darnley family which is documented in their bills. Much of the furniture was sold when the family moved in 1957, but there are still a few items in situ and a number of other items to enjoy - including a replica of the Ashes Urn and the story of how it came about.
Sadly our numbers have declined over the years, mostly due to old age and ill health, so I am opening up the trip to anyone interested in Ince & Mayhew furniture who would like to join us. We will be taken round by the Archivist and there will be a cream tea in the Gilt Hall to finish. The cost will be £13.50. If you are interested please get in touch with me through the Contact Form at the bottom of this page. It's an opportunity to meet some of the descendants of one of the most talented cabinet makers of his time, William Ince! |
